The beneficiary has sadly passed away – what happens now?

1 min read

We’re so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is an incredibly difficult experience, and during this time, our team is here to support you with care, compassion, and clarity.

There are a few scenarios at play, so it depends on which situation you find yourself in.

If funds have already been paid out in full:
We can assist you in putting an update together for your donors to inform them of your beneficiary’s passing. This is helpful when there are donors who are not close family or friends and have not yet been told of your beneficiary’s passing.

If funds are still due to be paid out:
If you still have funds available in your BackaBuddy campaign, and there are still medical bills outstanding, we can proceed to pay those medical bills. We can also assist with updating your donors, and letting them know that their donation will still be used as intended.

In the event that you still have funds available in your campaign but medical bills have fallen away due to your beneficiary’s passing, we will contact your donors. They will then have the option of (1) the funds still being paid to you to assist with funeral arrangements or (2) receiving a refund of their donation.

We understand that dealing with the loss of a loved one is an incredibly difficult time, and we’re committed to offering support with compassion and care. If you’re unsure about the next steps or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team. We’re here to guide you every step of the way and ensure that your beneficiary’s memory is honoured respectfully and transparently.
