Jahno Snyman spent years as a teacher noticing how unevenly opportunity is distributed. Some talented children had coaching, equipment and every practical advantage. Others had the same potential but far fewer ways to develop it.
Backing the Littles Movement grew from his wish to combine sport with practical support. Its Lakes to Mbombela tour brings experienced cyclists together for roughly 400 kilometres over three days, beginning with time alongside children at Eden Academy in Danville.
The initiative supports Eden Academy and Sion Sports Academy, both of which create learning, development and sporting opportunities for children facing financial barriers. Riders cover their own tour costs so that funds can move toward school and programme needs. The wider effort also includes hands-on projects such as painting classrooms and improving play spaces.
The name carries the movement’s central idea: children cannot always ‘back themselves’ without adults first helping create the conditions in which they can learn, move and discover what they are capable of.
